Starbuck Hockey AcademyA Unique Middle Years ProgramStarbuck Hockey Academy is an exciting opportunity for grades five to eight students, boys and girls, to attend a school where strong leadership skills, integrity, sound character and hard work ethic are instilled in our youth. The focus of the program is engage the students in their academic learning through their enthusiasm for the game of hockey and other athletic activities. Located 12 minutes west of Winnipeg on Highway #2, Starbuck Hockey Academy offers students one hour of professional hockey school instruction for 100 days between late September and March. This is possible through a partnership between the Red River Valley School Division, Starbuck Recreation Board, Hockey Canada and the Starbuck Hockey Academy Parents Committee, Inc. (SHAPCI) Enrollment in the program is limited, however, due to a large graduating class we expect to have over 20 openings for the 2011-12 school year. Apply early if you have an interest in this program for your child as we anticipate a two step intake with an early intake in November of 2010 and the final openings being filled in May of 2011. Transportation is available. First priority for entry is for members of the school community, and then to RRVSD students. This priority is in effect up to May 1,then all applications are considered, in the order in which they are received, with a priority on female applicants until such time as the acceptance rate reaches 50% male/50% female. Fees for the 2010-11 year have been set at $1200.00 per student which covers the cost involved in operating the on-ice component of the program including ice rental and professional hockey instruction. Fees for the 2011-12 school year will be announced in the spring. For application information contact Paul Wheatley at 735-2779 ext 521.
